London, Paris, Brussels

Recently lot of my friends ask me for some advice when planning a trip. Even though I'm not one of the people that has travelled the most, I am good at getting the most out of a trip for the least money. Here are some recommendations:

General:
  • Fligh Norwegian. They are cheap and depart from Arlanda and Kastrup (unlike ryanair). Check the low fare calendar if you are flexible and can choose the cheapest dates. They are also on time.
  • Book different airlines to get an even lower price.
  • If possible don't have any check-in baggage. You are allowed to bring a cabin bag of max 10kg (ryanair is very strict about this while norwegian isn't).
  • For hotels or hostels I also use norwegian to get an overview of prices and locations but usually it is cheaper to book directly through the hotel or hostel.
  • Bring your student-id, if you have one.
  • Take a lot of pictures, with you in them.
  • Borrow from the library or buy a small book on the city of interest
  • For the time being it is very affordable to travel to Euroland; Finland, Estonia, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Monaco, Andorra, San Marino, Kosovo and Luxemburg.

Paris

  • The Louvre has free entry every first Sunday of the month. Take pictures without flash.
  • If you are an EU-citizen you can get to the top of Notre Dame (great view) for free. Entrance is outside the cathedral, to the left.
  • Bring a bottle of champagne to the top of the Eiffel tower in the evening.
  • Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame have free entry.

London

  • Unlike Paris, you have to pay to get into houses of worship for example St Paul's Cathedral, unless you are there to pray :)
  • Next to St Paul's Cathedral on Trafalgar Square is the National Gallery; completely amazing and free. You are not allowed to take any pictures.
  • Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant close to Covent Garden, cheap and tasteful

Brussels

  • I recommend this hostel in Brussels; good location, cheap, young interior but no breakfast is served there is a kitchen for everyone to use.
  • Buy and eat a lot of chocolate, preferable Leonidas.
  • Eat waffles
  • Try different beers and especially ask for a chimay blau

Conclusion

  • You can travel between these three cities fast and environmental friendly but expensive by train
  • When you're out of money just enjoy the atmosphere.
